Orlando Sentinel Artists Showcase Hispanic Outlook By Sara ShecKler | Sentinel Correspondent April 11, 2003 KISSIMMEE -- When staff members of the Osceola Center for the Arts began approaching Hispanic artists last year to put together an exhibition, the artists' enthusiasm was overwhelming. "When I called each artist, three others were recommended," said Debra Stamas, Center for the Arts membership director. The fruits of this labor will be evident when the center presents "A Hispanic Perspective," featuring Hispanic artists. A free opening-night reception that will allow patrons to meet the artists is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today. "The center wanted to reach out and acknowledge the Hispanic community and its artistic achievements," Stamas said. "A large percentage of the county's population is Hispanic." The artists will exhibit interpretations of their history, traditions and culture in photography, mixed media, oil paintings, acrylics and sculpture. The artists are Pia de Biedma, John J. Browne III, Ayes and Jimmy Rosado of Kissimmee; Aurora Rincon, Armando Rivera, Arturo Macias, Marcelo Lozada and Obed Gomez of Orlando and Edson Campos, Claudia Pandolfi and Marcos Serrano of Winter Park. Rincon is exhibiting a series of free-form wire sculptures representing female forms, and mixed-media paintings. One of Serrano's photographs is a portrait of child. Gomez paints colorful free-form acrylics of people and animals. "Some of his images brings to mind Don Quixote," Stamas said. Artists represent countries that include Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and Puerto Rico. The show, which continues through May 11, is sponsored by Signature by the Lake Restaurant and Catering in Kissimmee and Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q in St. Cloud. The Center for the Arts is at 2411 E.
