PESQUERA PROMISES ANOTHER STATEHOOD REFERENDUM Republicans, Democrats Courting Hispanic Vote Gore and Burgos Discuss Vieques Norma Burgos, Secretary of State and President of the Special Commission to Study the Situation of the Island Municipality of Vieques Relative to the Activities of the United States Navy, shows vice president Al Gore a map of the island. Burgos met with Gore in Rhode Island during the annual meeting of the National Conference of Lieutenant Governors (NCLG). The NCLG approved a resolution spearheaded by Burgos which supports the work of the Vieques Special Commisssion and asks the US Navy to cease and desist their activities on the island. Puerto Rico Threatens to Sue U.S. Navy SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP)--Puerto Rico's government is threatening to sue the U.S. Navy for damaging its environment, adding a new element to a growing controversy over the Navy's live-fire exercises on Vieques.
